In Gear Cycle Sport Team
IN-GEAR QUICKVIT TRAINSHARP The club for people who take their cycling seriously. But not themselves. In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp was formed in 2010 through the merger of VC In-Gear and the highly successful In-Gear Quickvit RT racing team, with ex-team rider Jon Sharples coming on board as a sponsor with his coaching company, Trainsharp. Open to EVERYONE, regardless of age, sex, experience, ability or ambition, In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp brings together all the best bits - including the people - from the RT and VC. If you want to race, you can; if you just want to ride for fitness and pleasure, you'll be in the majority. It's a brilliant way to learn, progress, meet new people and get the most from your precious riding time. Plus, you'll be riding in the same colours (still mainly red and white, but now with some fancy carbon-effect bits as well) as several National Champions and a Team Sky director. What other cycling club can promise you that?

Having been turned down, they decided to start their own team, with local estate agents Siberry's and architects WAS coming on board as additional sponsors. The new team, In-Gear Quickvit RT, took to the road resplendent in red and white in honour of Pete's beloved Charlton Athletic FC. This earned Pete a write-up in the match programme's ‘Fan Focus' section, which still ranks among his proudest achievements. Local and regional success became national domination when Michael Hutchinson joined the team, which already boasted a former Tour de France yellow jersey, Sean Yates, in its ranks. In 2006, Alan Denman formed the In-Gear Development Squad to nurture young talent alongside the senior team. Several DS riders are now riding in France and Belgium, including rising stars Tom Copeland, Matt Green, Tom Snape and Matt Jones. Not everyone whom rides a road bike wants to race, however – at least, not seriously enough to join one of the teams. In 2007, In-Gear organised a series of ‘have-a-go' time trials, to give local riders of all abilities a chance to test themselves over five miles against the clock. It proved a massive hit, and as well as becoming an annual event, gave birth to VC In-Gear (short for Vélo Club, a nod to roadies' love of all things Continental). Like most conventional cycling clubs, the VC had lively riding, competition and social programmes, plus some rather nifty kit; unlike them, however, it was entirely free of arcane rules, politics, committees and cliques. Not surprisingly, membership quickly rose to more than 80 riders, most of whom had been cycling for less than three years. Although most would class themselves as ‘sportive' riders, a good number have been bitten by the competitive bug and are riding to a good standard in local road races and time trials.
